A Fair Weekend

Every year, our town has a Citizen's Day parade, and every year the fourth graders for each elementary school design floats for the parade. Since we have a fourth grader this year, we all got into the act. It was a major project. CR and I attended two of three after school workshops to make things for the float, and then I spent two hours the night before the parade with other parents assembling the actual float. The float was atop a giant 18 wheeler. This year's parade theme was Mardi Gras, and you can see the Mardi Gras-themed colors anc accessories in the photos. CR was a lady in waiting, and she got to sit in the king's court. After the parade, we had to rush to help disassemble the float, and then scoot to CR's soccer game. On Sunday, we attended the fair and had fun checking out the displays and exhibits, riding the rides, watching the Flying Wallendas and visiting our own fair entries. RJ received a blue ribbon for her entry, a trio of painted rocks. CR also received a blue ribbon, for her rocks and minerals collection. And I received a blue ribbon AND a best in show ribbon for my recycled materials entry - a "plarn" bag made entirely of crocheted plastic grocery bags!
